Sinusitis and Dizziness

As one of the most common effects of sinusitis, dizziness is also one of the most bothering and uncomfortable. Because of this dizziness, people with sinusitis can not perform their daily activities normally and they are forced to take plenty of rest and wait for their sinusitis, dizziness included, to be gone.

This effect of sinusitis, dizziness it is, if not acted upon immediately can lead to vertigo – another serious condition that needs serious medical attention.

First, what is sinusitis? Sinusitis affects the sinuses, the tiny chambers behind the bones of the nose, cheeks, eyes and jaws. These are chambers where mucus is produced. The mucus functions as the vehicle for bacteria and other particles out of the nose. This liquid substance is moved out the nose by tiny hairs called cilia. Sinusitis is the swelling of these chambers. When they are swollen, mucus will have a hard time to get out of the nose. Since the mucus contains bacteria and other particles, it will cause inflammation.

Sinusitis can affect the ear. In the ear is the vestibular system where our balance is maintained. When this area is threatened by sinusitis, dizziness can be experienced and if not acted upon immediately, vertigo may develop. What is vertigo? It is a condition that affects our balance. It can be described as a feeling of spinning or twirling with the fact that the body is actually not moving.

If signs of sinusitis are already present, it is recommended that you put action into it immediately. There are home remedies that are very easy to do or to be sure, you can go straight to your physician for medical advice.
